ArtPlantae was created by Tania Marien. Tania has an Interdisciplinary Studies Masters Degree (Biology & Student Learning) and a bachelors degree in Biology. She taught biology as an adjunct faculty member for five years at three California colleges. A long-time admirer of botanical art, she has been studying botanical art since 2001.

Tania is an active member of the Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California (BAGSC) and has served on the Executive Committee or General Board since 2001. In January 2002, Tania and the Botanical Artists Guild launched BAGSC News and the Southern California Botanical Artist, which served as the Guild's newsletter covering botanical art news in southern California. Tania served as editor until August 2005.

Tania is currently the Guild's Secretary and is also serving as a Conference Co-Chair for the 14th Annual Meeting and Conference of the American Society of Botanical Artists. This year BAGSC members are hosting this annual international botanical art conference at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens and at the Pasadena Hilton in October 2008.
